UW-Madison's Batt selected to participate in 2018 David L. Clark Seminar

February 16, 2018

UW-Madison’s Lena Batt was nominated by the university and selected to participate in the 2018 David L. Clark Seminar, a two-day event for emerging educational administration and policy scholars. The seminar is sponsored by the American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) Divisions A and L, and University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA).

Batt is a Ph.D. candidate with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Policy Studies, where she also earned her master’s degree.

Batt's research interests include school leadership, school finance policy, teacher sorting, and their impact on inequities in American K-12 schools.  She is also investigating how resource decisions are made in schools.

Her current project is focused on studying the effects of enrollment-based funding and principal autonomy in New York City. She previously worked as a high school teacher and principal in New York City and as a middle school teacher in Fall River, Massachusetts. Prior to returning to graduate school, she consulted for the State of Massachusetts and the National Academy Foundation to support high schools in the creation of career academies.
