Call for proposals open for 2019 MSAN Institute

The call for proposals is now open for the 2019 Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN) Institute on Equity Leadership and Cultural Competence being held April 15-16 at The Concourse Hotel in Madison. 

Housed within the School of Education’s Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER), the MSAN Network for racial equity in schools is a national coalition of multi-racial, mid-sized, suburban-urban school districts working to understand and eliminate the effects of institutionalized racism on student achievement.

MSAN 2019The Institute, MSAN’s annual conference, is an intensive two-day professional learning opportunity dedicated to sharing cutting-edge strategies for racial equity work in K-12 schools. This year’s keynote addresses will be delivered by former UW-Madison faculty member Maisha T. Winn of the University of California, Davis, and MSAN alumnae Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi of Princeton Choose.

MSAN Institute breakout sessions highlight research-based strategies and promising practices for classroom teachers, building- and district-level decision makers, and family engagement leaders. Sessions may outline current initiatives as well as inform future research. 

Breakout sessions are facilitated by a diverse range of MSAN stakeholders, including researchers, teachers, superintendents, and MSAN partners. Past researchers who have presented include Gloria Ladson-Billings, John Diamond, Yvette Jackson, Donna Y. Ford, Aydin Bal, and Russ Skiba.
