UW–Madison’s Apple to receive honorary doctorate from University College Dublin

August 01, 2019

UW-Madison’s Michael Apple is receiving yet another honorary degree, this time from University College Dublin in Ireland.

Apple is the John Bascom Professor Emeritus of Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Policy Studies.

He will receive the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Education, honoris causa, on Dec. 2, 2019 at UCD’s O’Reilly Hall.

Michael Apple
Apple is widely known for conducting groundbreaking work as one of the leading founders of the field of critical curriculum studies. He has authored or edited more than 50 books — including two (“Ideology and Curriculum” and “Official Knowledge”) that are recognized as being among the most influential publications on education in the 20th century. These works have been translated into more than 20 languages.

Apple’s influence also is made clear by the fact that universities from across the globe have recognized his scholarly efforts. The recognition from University College Dublin marks the 14th time Apple will be receiving an honorary doctorate, or the equivalent.

In addition, Apple recently delivered a series of lectures on critical educational theories, policies, and practices in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
