
Abby Beneke is a faculty associate in the Department of Educational Policy Studies and a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she recently earned a Ph.D. in the Department of Educational Policy Studies. In EPS, Beneke teaches courses in education foundations and education policy, including Introduction to Education Policy; Democracy and Education; Race, Ethnicity, and Inequality in American Education; and School and Society.
In her scholarship, Beneke uses tools from anthropology and sociology to examine the relationship between K-12 education policy and practice, with a particular focus on how students, educators, and community members challenge and reproduce racism and intersecting oppressions through their everyday practices. Beneke has expertise in teachers, policy and practice, and school discipline, as well as care theories, critical race theories, and critical policy analysis. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Educational Researcher, Race Ethnicity and Education, and Theory and Research in Education.
