Morgan Mayer-Jochimsen

Biography

Morgan Mayer-Jochimsen is Teaching Faculty in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at UW–Madison. Her research centers student perspectives on issues of un/wellness in relation to social contexts, systems of oppression, and local school policy. Her previous research examined opportunities and limitations of anti-racist communities of practice for white women educators and supported expanded educational decision-making with students, parents, and elders to redesign school policy with Indigeneity at the center.

Humanizing approaches to central to Morgan’s work in both research and teaching. Morgan comes from multiple families of teachers and brings her background in community-based STEM programming with Girls Inc and Badger Precollege to her conceptions of active learning and student well-being in the classroom. Morgan is delighted to be building learning communities ED POL 200: Race, Ethnicity, and Inequality in American Education and ED POL 450: Afterschool Education this semester.

When not in the School of Ed, you’ll find her climbing trees, tending tomatoes, dancing salsa, hosting picnics with watercolors, singing and playing guitar, visiting her grandparents, and enjoying the heck out of being an auntie.
